Reading Lucius Verus

was at the Met over the weekend, and this broken statue of Roman emperor Lucius Verus caught my eye. The face looks square due to the stone breakdown, making his face look like a page from a book. Talk about being able to read someone! Verus was a co-emperor with Marcus Aurelius, the guy who wrote ‘Meditations’ (also the father of Commodus, if you’ve seen the movie Gladiator).
